SGA provides the Safe Passage program to designated Chicago Public Schools in targeted communities with high violence. This program trains and places adult guides from the community at critical points along neighborhood routes to increase safety while students travel to and from school for class and extra-curricular activities. The program extends the safe, secure and supportive environment of the school into the surrounding neighborhood and increases school attendance while decreasing violent incidents.
Through our innovative Higher Sights program, SGA offers college readiness and retention services for high-performing student leaders, including youth who may be involved in a gang or the justice system. Mentor coaches work with high school students to develop personalized college action plans and learn how to find and utilize supportive resources. Mentors also provide workshops focused on professional skill development.
